Nick Attard Recertifies with NFPS Trainer Course

We're pleased to announce that Nick Attard, General Manager at BR Specialists, has successfully completed his recertification with the National Federation for Personal Safety (NFPS) in March 2025.

Keeping accreditations up-to-date for all our staff, is of key importance - BRS aims to be best-of-class in our field, delivering high-quality training, taught with the most recent legal frameworks and the most appropriate techniques.

Nick participated in the comprehensive NFPS Physical Intervention Trainer Course, which awards the BTEC Level 3 Award upon successful completion. The intensive five-day training program was hosted at the prestigious Lilleshall National Sports Centre, a world-class training facility regularly used by Great Britain's elite athletes.

"It really was an amazing and inspiring place to train, with athletes all around, it was definately a motivating place to learn", said Nick.

The comprehensive recertification program covered critical areas essential for professionals working in high-risk environments:

  • Advanced physical restraint techniques with focus on minimum force approaches

  • Effective breakaway training for personal safety and self-protection

  • Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) strategies

  • Legal updates and sector-specific regulatory changes

This recertification ensures that BRS continues to deliver training that meets the highest industry standards and incorporates the latest developments in safety protocols.

Nick shared his thoughts on the recertification experience and its importance for BRS and our clients:

"The quality of instruction was exceptional," Nick explained. "The NFPS trainers bring both theoretical expertise and practical experience to the table, making the course incredibly relevant to the real-world situations our clients face daily."

On the importance of regular recertification, Nick emphasised: "The legal framework surrounding physical intervention is constantly evolving, as are best practices in the field. Regular recertification isn't just about ticking boxes - it's about ensuring we're providing our clients with approaches that are not only effective but also legally sound and ethically appropriate."

Nick particularly valued the technical updates covered during the course: "What might seem like minor adjustments to techniques can actually make a significant difference in real-life interventions. These refinements can be the difference between safely managing a situation and someone getting hurt - whether that's the individual being restrained or the staff member implementing the restraint."

The collaborative learning environment was another highlight: "Being surrounded by professionals from various sectors who all face similar challenges created a valuable exchange of ideas and experiences. These perspectives help us develop more nuanced approaches to the training we deliver at BRS."

Commitment to Excellence

This recertification represents BR Specialists' ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards in safety training. By ensuring our training team remains at the cutting edge of physical intervention techniques and best practices, we can continue to provide our clients with the knowledge and skills they need to protect both their staff and the individuals in their care.
